Description
Aqua Max 0.75kW DC Solar Pool Pump — Off-Grid
The Aqua Max DC solar pool pump runs directly off solar panels without any grid connection, inverter, or battery bank. It uses a brushless DC motor with a built-in MPPT controller that automatically draws maximum power from the panels throughout the day. As a result, the pump starts on its own when the sun comes up, adjusts speed based on available sunlight, and stops when the sun sets. There is nothing to switch on or off manually.
Why Choose a DC Solar Pool Pump
A conventional AC pool pump costs between R3,000 and R8,000 per year in electricity depending on your tariff and daily run time. The Aqua Max DC solar pump eliminates that cost entirely because it runs for free every day the sun shines. In addition, there is no inverter to buy, no battery bank to maintain, and no Eskom dependency. During loadshedding, a conventional pump sits idle. A DC solar pump keeps running as long as there is daylight. For most of South Africa, that means 8 to 10 hours of daily pumping through summer — more than enough for proper pool filtration and water turnover.
How It Works
Connect the pump directly to dedicated solar panels using the included MPPT controller. The controller converts the variable DC output from the panels into the correct voltage and current for the pump motor. In the early morning and late afternoon the pump runs at lower speed because sunlight is weaker. At midday it runs at full speed. This variable speed operation is actually gentler on the pump than a conventional fixed-speed motor that hammers on and off at full power every day.
Flow Rate and Pool Size
The pump delivers up to 21 cubic metres per hour at peak output. However, the actual flow throughout the day varies with sunlight intensity. Even so, the total daily volume is more than sufficient to turn over a standard residential pool of up to 60,000 litres. Pair the pump with a 3-bag sand filter (75kg sand) for optimal filtration performance. This is the same pump-to-filter pairing used on conventional 0.75kW Aqua Max pumps.
Ideal Applications
This pump suits off-grid properties, farms, game lodges, estates, and rural homes where grid electricity is unreliable or unavailable. It is also an excellent choice for grid-connected homes looking to take their pool pump completely off the electricity bill. If you already have a solar panel array with spare capacity, you can dedicate panels to this pump and never pay for pool filtration again.
What You Need for Installation
The pump requires dedicated solar panels (not included). Panel sizing depends on your location and roof orientation — consult your solar installer for the correct configuration. The pump includes the MPPT controller. You will also need standard 50mm PVC plumbing to connect the pump to your existing pool plumbing and filter. A qualified electrician or solar installer should handle the panel wiring and controller connection.
