Just Chlor J100 Cell – Standard Replacement Electrode

The Just Chlor J100 cell is the genuine standard replacement electrode for the Just Chlor J100 Standard salt chlorinator. It turns the salt in your pool water into chlorine by electrolysis, so your pool stays sanitised without handling bulk chlorine. As a result, fitting a new cell restores full chlorine output without replacing the whole chlorinator.

How the Just Chlor J100 Cell Works

First, pool water flows through the cell housing while the pump runs. Next, a low-voltage current passes through the coated titanium plates. The current then splits the dissolved salt, which releases chlorine into the water. Afterwards, the chlorine turns back into salt, so the cycle repeats and you rarely need to add salt again.

When to Replace Your Cell

Over time, the plate coating wears away and chlorine output drops. For example, you may notice low chlorine readings even though the salt level is correct and the pump runs long enough. In that case, clean the cell first. However, if output stays low after cleaning, the cell has most likely reached the end of its life.

Standard vs Self-Cleaning Cells

This is the standard (STD) cell. It runs in one direction only, so calcium builds up on the plates and you need to clean it regularly. In contrast, the self-cleaning (SC) version reverses polarity automatically to shed calcium. Therefore, check that your power pack is a J100 Standard before you order.

Cleaning the Just Chlor J100 Cell

  1. First, switch off the chlorinator and the pump.
  2. Next, remove the electrode from its housing.
  3. Then mix 1 part pool acid into 10 parts water in a plastic container. Always add the acid to the water, never the other way round.
  4. After that, dip only the plates into the solution until the calcium dissolves. Keep the wire connections out of the liquid, because acid damages them and voids the warranty.
  5. Finally, rinse the plates with clean water and refit the cell.

Salt Level

Just Chlor recommends a minimum salt level of 0.6% (6,000ppm). In other words, add at least 60kg of iodine-free pool salt per 10,000 litres of water.
