Sand Filter Underdrain Lateral — Replacement

The underdrain lateral is one of the slotted arms at the bottom of your sand filter that collects filtered water and channels it back to the pool. These laterals have fine slots that allow water through but hold the filter sand in place. If a lateral cracks or breaks, sand escapes into your pool through the return jets — a clear sign it needs replacing.

When to Replace

If you’re finding sand at the bottom of your pool or sand blowing out of your return jets, a cracked lateral is the most likely cause. Drain the sand from your filter, inspect the laterals, and replace any that are cracked, broken, or have enlarged slots. Fits standard Aqua Max sand filters.
